TITLE: Abstractions and Idealisations: The Construction of Modern Linguistics ABSTRACT: In this talk, which reports joint work with Michiel van Lambalgen, we investigate the way in which modern linguistics has constructed some of its core notions (such as language, meaning, competence). We argue that often a process of construction is used, which we call `idealisation', that differs in essental ways from the process of abstraction that we know from the natural sciences. These differences and the consequences for the nature of linguistics as scientific enterprise are discussed in some detail. 时间:2010年5月6日 3:30-5:30 地点:新斋346
